What is a Holter Monitor?
A Holter monitor is a small, portable device that continuously records your heart's electrical activity over a 24-hour period while you go about your normal daily routine. Unlike a standard ECG, which records only a few seconds of heart activity, a Holter monitor can detect intermittent heart rhythm abnormalities that may otherwise be missed. It is commonly used to investigate symptoms such as:
-
Palpitations
-
Irregular heartbeats
-
Dizziness or light-headedness
-
Blackouts or fainting episodes
-
Unexplained shortness of breath
-
Monitoring known heart rhythm conditions
The monitor is painless, non-invasive, and easy to wear under normal clothing.
